State Water Resources Control Board Issues Conservation Order to RMWD
On August 31, 2015, the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) issued a Conservation Order to RMWD for failing to meet the conservation standards associated with the Governor's emergency regulations. As you may be aware, these standards are applicable mainly to our residential customers as agricultural customers were exempted. from these cutbacks. This part of our website will be updated periodically to include documents from the SWRCB to RMWD and those we send back.
As with the rest of San Diego water agencies, RMWD strongly opposes the manner in which the State is handling the current drought. Specifically, San Diego County got zero credit for the billions we have invested in drought resistant water supplies. We have a full supply of water this year and these draconian cutbacks are not needed here. There are other areas of the State that did not invest and plan as well as we did, so these sorts of cutbacks may be useful there, but you invested in reliability and the State has negated those investments.
It is our intention to comply fully with the Order as we are mandated to do so by State Law. However, we are working with other agenceis in similar positions to seek relief through administrative or legal avenues.
Stay tuned to this page for updates.
